A Parents' Recipe for Summer Reading Retention

Have fun reading this summer! Studies show that children who read for pleasure during the summer months retain, and even improve, their reading skills. This simple recipe is sure to delight even the pickiest of summer readers and keep your kids reading all summer long!
  • Take your child to Buckham Memorial Library any time this summer.
  • Sign up your child for a free library card.
  • Let your child choose books to read...then check 'em out!
  • Set aside time each day to read with your child.
  • Show your child that you enjoy reading.
  • Read and read and read and read.
  • Return those library books and check out some more!
  • Repeat all summer long and beyond!

After serving this recipe, don't be surprised when you hear, "More books, PLEASE!"

Fun Fridays at the Library

Note that all Friday programs will take place in the Great Hall unless otherwise noted. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to each performance. To help ensure the safety of all Library patrons, seating is limited. (Maximum capacity for floor seating in the Great Hall is 275 children.) When the program begins OR the Great Hall has reached maximum room capacity, the performance will be closed. Please turn off cell phones and other electronic devices during performances.

Afternoon performances marked (ASL) will be American Sign Language interpreted. If other special accomodations are needed, please call Children's Librarian Delane James at 507-334-2089 at least 72 hours in advance.

Birthday Cake Kits - A Celebration in a Box!

Beginning June 5, Buckham Memorial Library will collect sealed cake mixes, icing, and packages of candles. On Friday August 8, during the Minnesota's 150th Birthday Book Bash, kids and families will use these items to creat 150 Birthday Cake Kits that will be donated to the Faribault Area Food Shelf.
