Summer Library Program

Fizz Boom READ!

Prevent the summer reading slide

Children who read during the summer improve their comprehension skills and are better prepared when school starts again in the fall. On the other hand, children who do not read lose some of their reading skills over the summer. The good news is that reading even a few minutes a day throughout the summer can prevent this achievement loss-and leads to fun prizes at the library! Stop in throughout the summer to stock up on books, talk with the children's librarian, and engage in crafts and activities.

Ways you can help your child be motivated about summer reading:
  • Choose fun books. Read a book of riddles and then make up your own!
  • Check out a cookbook and make a new recipe!
  • Keep reading aloud to all of your children. Reading is for everyone!
  • Set aside time each day to read with your child.
  • Join the library‚Äôs Summer Reading Program!

Fun Fridays at the Library

Friday programs will take place in the Great Hall unless otherwise noted. Doors will open 10 minutes prior to each performance. To help insure the safety of all library patrons, seating is limited. (Maximum capacity for floor seating in the Great Hall is 275 people.) When the program begins OR the Great Hall has reached maximum room capacity, the performance will be closed. Please turn cell phones and electronic devices off during performances. Performances marked (ASL) will be American Sign Language interpreted. If other special accommodations are needed, please call Children's Librarian, Deni Buendorf at (507) 334-2089 least 72 hours in advance.

During programs, library staff or local media may take photographs to be used for library publicity. If you do not wish your child to be photographed, please inform the staff member in charge. Names of children in photographs will not be included without written consent from a parent or guardian.
