Alexander
Faribault's French house
A
Closer Look
In 1856, Alexander Faribault moved from the frame
house he had first constructed near the Straight River to a larger
home with a mansard roof on the east side of the river. Roofs of
this type were typically found on buildings in France, and this
style of architecture is also called “French Second Empire.” In
1874 his house was sold to the State School for the Blind.
