Making the town grow

A Closer Look

Alexander Faribault clearly had ambitions for his town. He donated money and land to a number of significant town-building endeavors. These efforts brought more people and money to Faribault.

Alexander's efforts included:
1850 Alexander and others open limestone quarries for building stone.
1853 Donates money for the first school, which his children later attend.
1855 Platted town with others, setting aside space for a City Park.
1856 Donates land and $1000 for first Catholic church.
1858 Invites innovative flour millers to Faribault
1860 Offers land and support to Bishop Henry Whipple for Episcopal development.

What sorts of issues do today's town planners have to work with? You can find information about Faribault’s city planning department at www.faribault.org.
